October 17 2023 – Delikate Rayne

Are you constantly experiencing migraines or headaches but don’t know how to treat them? Herbal medicine is plants that are used as medicine to help alleviate symptoms. Herbal remedies are popular because they are gentler on the body and have fewer side effects when compared with traditional medicine. Here are six herbal remedies to use to treat your headaches. These herbal remedies are accessible, and you may even have some lying around your house.
Lavender

Studies show that inhaling lavender while experiencing migraines may help alleviate migraine symptoms. Lavender is also used to treat stress, fatigue, and insomnia. Use lavender to treat your migraine by using lavender oil to breathe in the oil, putting it in a bath, or applying a diluted solution to your temples.

Rosemary

Rosemary is another herbal remedy that is used to treat migraines. Rosemary is also used to treat muscle and joint pain, memory problems, difficulties concentrating, nervous disorders, circulatory problems, and liver ailments. Use rosemary oil to inhale it or dilute it and apply it topically to alleviate headache symptoms. You can also consume rosemary via capsules that are dried and ground up rosemary, or drink rosemary tea as other forms of headache treatment.

Coriander Seeds

Coriander seeds are an herbal remedy that has been used for over 7,000 years. Coriander seeds are used for treating allergies, diabetes, headaches, and migraines. Coriander was used in Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine to relieve sinus pressure and headaches by pouring hot water over fresh coriander seeds and inhaling in the steam. You can also use coriander to treat your headaches by chewing the seeds and by adding them to your food or teas.

Ginger

Ginger is a popular herbal medicine that’s been used in China for over 2,000 years. Ginger is used for treating headaches, stomach pain, nausea, arthritis, cold and flu symptoms, and neurological problems. A study found that ginger powder's benefits in treating migraines are similar to sumatriptan’s, which is a prescription migraine drug, but ginger has fewer side effects. Use ginger to treat migraines by consuming fresh or dried ginger roots, supplements, extracts, capsules, and teas. Do not take ginger supplements if you take blood thinners.

Peppermint

Peppermint is another form of herbal medicine that is used to treat headaches, and it is native to North America, Asia, and Europe. In addition to treating headaches, peppermint is also used to treat spasms, toothaches, gastrointestinal problems, nausea, menstrual cramps, and anxiety. Use peppermint to treat your headaches with diluted topical solutions applied to your forehead and temples, by drinking peppermint tea, and by consuming peppermint liquid capsules.

Potatoes

The final herbal remedy that is used for treating headaches and migraines is raw potato cuttings. For over 200 years potatoes have been used in European folk medicine. Potatoes are used to treat headaches by taking thick slices of raw potatoes and wrapping a thin cloth around them. Either wrap this around your head or apply it directly to your temples to ease tension and pain
